As some of you may or may not know, I have dropped out of graduate school (always wanted to be a dropout), joined AmeriCorps (like the Peace Corps, but for the US), and now I am moving to Charleston, SC (Yay for the beach!). September 7th is my first day of training. I will be training for an entire month, and then we get sent out on our first project. I joined a division called the National Civilian Community Corps (NCCC). We will be sent away from SC for 6-8 weeks at a time to work on projects that could range from Education to Community Development to Disaster Relief. Also, if i pass my physical (3 mile hike in 45 minutes, with 45 lbs on my back), then i get to become a forest fire guy, and participate in controlled burning and possibly actual forest fire prevention/elimination. Then we will come back to Charleston for 3 days before being sent out on our next assigment.
Seing as I wont have a lot of time and possibly not have internet access, this will serve as my communication out to all of you whom i care about. If you enjoy the stories here, please feel free to tell all your friends as well, especially if they are single, attractive women who have infinite patience for guys with a simultaneously complex and infantile sense of humor (i.e. I am always laughing).
